Thomas Jefferson, Letter to Samuel Kerceval, July 12, 1816
Quote from Thomas Jefferson’s letter, excerpt from last paragraph
“To secure self-government by the republicanism of our constitution, as well as by the spirit of the people; and to nourish and perpetuate that spirit; I am not among those who fear the people. They, and not the rich, are our dependence for continued freedom. And to preserve their independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debts, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our callings and our creeds, as the people of England are, our people, like them, must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give the earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and daily expenses; and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live, as they now do, on oatmeal and potatoes; have no time to think, no means of calling the “mis-managers” to account; but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers”.
A quote attributed to John D Rockefeller, “I don’t want a nation of thinkers; I want a nation of workers.”He was also a man who built the education system in the US. Think about it. Higher education for management told what to do to rivet chains. There are so few good managers of men, mostly riveters.
A similar phrase appeared in an 1849 editorial by William Cooke Taylor. He wrote about global socialist folly and the mischief of their schemes, but because he deemed that every proposal purporting to be designed for the benefit of humanity should be heard with respectful attention, and answered in terms of kindness and courtesy. His thoughts led me to think of civility, but where are my waders, how can we agree to disagree when we don’t agree on how we may benefit from their liberals’ ideas on leadership.

Do we want them in charge of our humanity with their beliefs in what is best for us as task masters? There are always leaders waiting to take the reins of power. In all of history there is nothing new under the sun. Only the names are changed as time marches on.
No Matter who they attribute the reasons of why we need tasks masters; do we want liberty and freedom or servitude that keeps us in National debt. My hope is that we may learn from the wisdom of those that came before us. Watch the video below from YouTube, called, Five Monkeys, regarding a suggestion of how to create a mentality of 85% of the people. Notice how quickly learned behaviors can spread and become accepted norms within a group, regardless of whether they make sense or not, Status quo.
Get involved, we are our government to enjoy or regret.
